Letter from Campus - Masters degree in Development Practice at Sciences in Paris

The city of romance, Paris, has also been home to some of the greatest thinkers of our time. Durkheim, Foucault, Comte, de Beauvoir are among the few that regarded this city as home. Nestled among the numerous cafes and museums lies the Institute d'etudes politiques de Paris (Sciences Po). More than 140 years old, it has traditionally educated France's political and diplomatic elite. It is located in the heart of Paris with the Notre Dame, Louvre and Eiffel Tower just a few blocks away.

There’s a time in the year where men paint their faces, pull on brightly coloured stockings, bizarre wigs, jewellery and clothes borrowed from grandmothers. It's not some cross-dressing competition, but a carnival ‘le Carnaval de Dunkerque’, which occurs every February in a coastal town close to Lille. Even the ladies don bizarre outfits. Everyone joins the parade dancing across town, singing traditional tunes, carrying colourful umbrellas to catch fish thrown by the Mayor from his office. - Vidyun Rathore
