Here's your chance to change the world – one good idea at a time

The World Bank and the Wharton School are organizing the annual Ideas for Action competition for high school students. Here’s what you need to know.

Are you passionate about international development, social entrepreneurship, and/or sustainable development? Do you have ideas on how to innovate and make an impact in the above fields? If you do, here’s a great opportunity. The World Bank Group & the Carol and Lawrence Zicklin Center for Business Ethics Research at the Wharton School of Business are organizing the Ideas for Action Competition, for students just like you.

Here’s the context. In 2015, the UN member states adopted a set of 17 goals as part of the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development. Some of these goals are - no poverty, zero hunger, quality education, gender equality, affordable and clean energy, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, and climate action. The aim is to end poverty everywhere. These goals will guide policy and funding until 2030. Naturally, the youth will naturally play a definitive role in realizing these goals by creating, developing and sharing their ideas.

Ideas for Action is a great platform to do just that. For the competition, contestants must form teams with 2 to 6 members, and register on the website. This will give access to resources and research material, as well as the latest updates. Each team must submit their proposal in a Microsoft Word or PDF format by the proposed deadline – Feb. 28th.  The results will be announced on 31st May.

The winners will receive support from a Wharton-based incubator, present ideas during the Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World bank Group, and have the opportunity to network with experts from academia, development, and related sectors.

For more details on the proposal, the timeline, and the competition, please see here.

Good luck!
