Summer program participants on the Penn campus, July 2016 |
Want a taste of the Ivy League experience? Well, you can have it, if you’re a high school student, and 15-18 years old! The Knowledge@Wharton High School Global Young Leaders Academy is receiving applications now. This year, you can choose from four sessions: June 4-18, June 18 to July 2, July 9-23, and July 23 to August 6.
The two-week program combines business studies, hands-on workshops, field trips, and socio-cultural activities. It draws content from more than 400 lesson plans on the Knowledge@Wharton High School portal, with a focus on economics, finance, entrepreneurship, leadership, and US college admissions.
Participating students live on or near the University of Pennsylvania campus, and attend classes in The Wharton School’s Huntsman Hall. Wharton professors lead thought-provoking and challenging discussions on topics such as ‘Understanding Money’ and ‘Introduction to Entrepreneurship’. Students also develop important skills such as public speaking, teamwork, and co-operation through in-class exercises. Team-building exercises such as a scavenger hunt and the Marshmallow Challenge, and weekend trips to Washington, DC and Six Flags, add to the fun.
Hera Chan, student at the Shanghai High School International Division (SHSID), China, participated in the 2016 program. She says this is a program where the professors really care about you:
