A new program at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management aims to equip graduates with the skills to succeed in the field of management analytics.
The Master of Management Analytics (MMA) is a rigorous nine-month program aimed at recent university graduates and provides students with advanced data management, analytical and communication skills.
Developed in consultation with analytical professionals in industry, the program combines training in the use of predictive and prescriptive analytics tools as they apply to multi-faceted managerial problems. A capstone course, which will pair students with an organization to tackle a real-world business problem, runs throughout the program. Students are also exposed to the latest developments in big data, machine learning, cybersecurity, and deep learning through an ongoing colloquium with modules meant to incorporate the forefront of thinking in data analytics.
Students will also have access to the Rotman School’s Self-Development Lab to develop critical communication, professional and interpersonal skills needed to convey clear and concise business solutions. Coursework in data visualization complement these skills by helping students not only interpret and organize big data but also to present it in a form which is easy to interpret and explain at all levels of an organization.
“It’s hard to find a business area that doesn’t have a need for data-based analytics,” says Dmitry Krass, a professor of operations management and statistics who is the Academic Director of the MMA Program. “The exponential growth in data available through personal devices and web-based interface combined with the increased ability to store and manage big data provide growing opportunities for companies to better market and manage their product.”
Complete program information on the Master of Management Analytics, including how to apply, is online. The first class begins in August 2018.
Candidates for the program may be interested in participating in the Master of Management Analytics Datathon, which will be held at the Rotman School on November 3 and 4 with prizes announced at the formal launch event of the program on November 4. Participants in the Datathon will solve a business challenge using live data with members of the winning team earning scholarships for the MMA program if their application to the program is accepted. Further information, including registration, is available online.
The MMA program is the second specialized Master’s program aimed at recent university graduates developed by the Rotman School.
“We are observing significant demand by employers and talented young men and women for these pre-experience programs which focus on combining technical training with strong professional skills. We are thrilled about the launch of the MMA and see it attracting a diverse cohort of exceptional candidates,” says Prof. Susan Christoffersen, Vice-Dean of Specialized Programs at the Rotman School.
The Rotman School of Management is located in the heart of Canada’s commercial and cultural capital and is part of the University of Toronto, one of the world’s top 20 research universities.
