The direction in which education starts a man (person), will determine his future life – Plato, The Republic

Darwin gave the theory of the “Survival of the fittest”. In today’s world every person on the globe doesn’t only want to be the fittest but also wants to be the idol of everyone’s heart. In order to successfully reach the zenith, education is the only way from which one can start working on his/her life’s goal. Our elders often say that education is a path one takes, but a successful person in the true sense is one who is dedicated from the very soul.

Teachers play an important role in a student’s life. If the teacher underestimates the child or shows a casual approach towards the child, s/he will also show casual attitude towards studies and in the end it is the child who is at a loss.

Education to me is something that at a point of time doesn’t allow any kind of development or change to take place at least in the school life. Every Monday morning, in every school, why are all the first periods Mathematics or Sciences or social Studies? Why don’t the schools let the children play in the lawn? It is because the schools want to train and teach the children that every day will not be an exuberant Sunday and a lot of pressures can come right next to a holiday and they have to face it.

There are different kinds of academic curricula that the Indian education system provides. One of them is provided by the CBSE which everyone falsely recognize as burdensome. The strenuous school life has a reason behind it. We learn the art of disciplining our mind. We find out what interests us. We look at the world in a different manner and chart out a path on which we want to want to walk on.  It prepares us for our life; the life that suffices for our very existence. A purpose driven education makes a person live a fruitful life. And success is when we have reached our potential. The journey can be really gruesome, but the destination is what matters the most. A little bit of hard work doesn’t hurt. Moreover, a student’s life is the best time that one can sow the seeds of whatever life one wants for him/herself. We should keep in mind, that there are no shortcuts and will never be any.

On the contrary, this kind of education is not received by many children in our country. Imagine an institute like IIT which educates a few hundred pupils and they later open companies which hire many people but at the end of the day it is the Direction of education which helps those few hundred to develop a bend of mind to think out of the box and do something that could help a million families. Seeking education from a reputed institution like the IITs or Oxford cannot inculcate a spirit to do something for others. The intent comes from the direction of knowledge one takes. The names become ‘reputed’ only when one does such deeds in life. The innumerous degrees may fill a curriculum vitae but not a character.

Education is not determined by the amount of money one puts in to attain it. But, its internalization is all that matters. One could go around the world and invest in a lot of courses, but without the intent to apply the knowledge he has learnt, all his material efforts go in vain. Yet, there might be a child who gets his education from the each one teaches one programme of a local government school. He will be on a greater platform as compared to the former child and will definitely make his life worthwhile. What we need to gather is the fact that directions can be many, but deciding which out the many is particularly suited for an individual makes all the difference.
