But Jay Shendure, a Technology Review winner in 2006 and winner of the Lowell Milken Prostate Cancer Foundation young investigator award in 2010, found a way to make it easier. Instead of looking for problem genes by sequencing the 3-billion-letter human genome, he found a way to focus on the 1 percent that causes rare diseases.
