One of the UK’s finest universities, Imperial College London is now accepting scholarship applications from prospective research students for their 2020-21 academic year. The scholarship will cover tuition fees, a generous stipend, and support from a research supervisor in the chosen field. The university has an exclusive focus on STEM and seeks students who have the drive to solve real-world problems. These generous scholarships are an attempt to nurture the next generation of researchers.

A total of 50 scholarships in the fields of science, engineering, medicine and business will be awarded under the President’s PhD Scholarship scheme. The opportunities for securing this scholarship are extremely competitive, and therefore, have higher than usual eligibility requirements.

Here are the eligibility criteria for the scholarships:

  1. There are no restrictions on the nationality of the applicant

  2. Candidates must have a consistently unparalleled academic history and should be in receipt of, or due to receive, an equivalent of a first-class UK degree. International candidates are requested to determine whether their scores/grades are equivalent to the relevant eligibility criteria

  3. Candidates with a standalone master’s qualification must have achieved a distinction or be able to provide evidence of high performance that will lead to a distinction. They must also hold a first-class UK undergraduate degree or equivalent (integrated Masters that form part of an undergraduate degree, e.g. MEng, MSc, M. Math, are assessed by Admissions as an undergraduate qualification when determining eligibility). Candidates with multiple standalone master’s qualifications must have achieved a distinction in the one most relevant to their PhD study

  4. Candidates are also requested to contact a supervisor in an academic department at Imperial College London who has agreed to supervise their research project, all before they apply for the scholarship. The supervisors are limited to supervising one scholar at any time. Candidates are also advised to review the President's PhD Scholarships - Unavailable Supervisors.

For applying to the scholarship, candidates are requested to submit their application for admission through the online admissions system and the respective department will put them forward for the scholarship based on academic merit and research potential. Applicants who apply before 10 January 2020 and are awarded a scholarship, will now be notified by 31 March 2020. For more information about the scholarship, visit here.
