The applications for Mitacs Globalink Research Internships 2017 are now open to senior undergraduate students from Australia, Brazil, China, France, India, Germany, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and Tunisia.
The internships, starting in May-June and ending in July-September of next year, will be of 12-week duration. Those selected will intern at one of the 45 reputed universities which have partnered with Mitacs Globalink. Research projects are available in a range of disciplines from science, engineering, maths, to humanities and social sciences. Partner universities include: Calgary, Montreal, Simon Fraser, British Columbia and Toronto.
Dat Hyunh, a former Mitacs Globalink Research Intern, says: “Here they have very good facilities. I really want to do Robotics for my PhD [but] it’s hard for me to do it in my country because of the [lack of] facilities.” During the internship, students will work with professors in world class facilities and gain skills which distinguish them in their academic and professional lives.
Oscar Mata, a Mexican student who completed his internship project in Biomedical Optics at Simon Fraser University last year, says that the programme opened his eyes and made him want to return to a Canadian university for graduate studies. The Mitacs Global Research Internship is also a great gateway to further studies. On completing the internship, students can apply for a Mitacs Globalink Graduate Fellowship award.
The internship includes a flight to Canada, housing stipend, health insurance, student enrollment fees, living expenses, mentorship, as well as entry to workshops and related events. At the end of the programme, students receive a certificate.
The deadline for applications is September 20, 2016. Students must submit academic transcripts, CV, reference letter, English proficiency test scores, as part of their application. The internships are highly competitive.
Interested? In the words of Gairik Dutta, former research intern and now an M.A.Sc. candidate at the University of Toronto, “Don’t think. Just apply. It’s a really great opportunity.”
