Diana Drake and Dominic Johnson with a winning team at the regional finale held in New Delhi |
Registration for the Knowledge@Wharton Investment Competition has begun from October 8, 2016. The deadline for applications is October 31, 2016.
The Investment Competition is an online investment simulation for high school students and teachers, run by Knowledge@Wharton High School, which is part of the global network of business journals based at the Wharton School of Business (University of Pennsylvania).
The competition will challenge teams, each of which will consist of 4 – 9 students. The teams will have to manage a portfolio of $100,000 in virtual cash using Wharton’s Online Trading and Investment Simulator (OTIS).
The students will be required to submit two projects during the competition - a mid-project team review and a final policy. The mid-project team review is for students to show the judges their strategies and their development plan. The final policy will focus on the investment strategies of the teams. What is distinctive about this competition is that winners will be chosen not on the basis of portfolio growth, but on the strength and articulation of their strategies.
The competition aims at helping students learn about teamwork, communication, risk, diversification, company analysis, industry analysis, and investing – a great balance of both general and specific skills.
The Knowledge@Wharton Investment Competition will run in two regions - South Asia and Middle East, and Global.
The important dates for the competition are as follows:
Mukul Pandya, Executive Director and Editor-in-Chief, Knowledge@Wharton network, told the media, “KWHS Investment Competition provides a platform for young students to tap their potential and learn certain skill sets outside the classroom, like teamwork, leadership, risk, communication and of course, about investments. Last year, we got to witness some brilliant presentations and I am confident that this year will be no different. Good luck to them all!”
