Canada is a hot destination for STEM students internationally. Its quality of research, industry-academia integration, and welcoming culture are attractive qualities. But financing your studies might still seem a stiff challenge.  But don’t worry! Every year, several Canadian universities offer a new stock of scholarships for local and international students. These can help ensure that no prospective deserving student misses out on acquiring a world-class education for want of funds. Here is a list of 7 post-graduate scholarships for aspiring engineering students in Canada.

  1. Ontario Graduate Scholarship:
    The Ontario Graduate Scholarship program is a scholarship jointly funded by the Ontario government and publicly-assisted universities to encourage excellence in graduate studies across disciplines.

    The OGS is a merit-based scholarship and the recipients have an option to take up their scholarship for a minimum of two terms (receiving $10,000 total) or three terms (receiving $15,000 total).

  2. Devani Charities Graduate Engineering Entrance Scholarship:
    The Devani Charities Graduate Scholarship is a scholarship awarded annually to a graduate student registered full-time in the first year of a thesis-based Master’s program in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Candidates with a background of formal education in India are preferred for this scholarship. The award’s value is  $1,500.

  3. Hira and Renu Ahuja International Graduate Scholarship:
    The Hira and Renu Ahuja scholarship is another University of Waterloo scholarship valued at $20,000 and provided annually to a full-time graduate student enrolled in the Masters or Doctoral program in the Faculty of Engineering on the basis of academic excellence. The scholarship is awarded only to female IIT graduates.

  4. The University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowships:
    The University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowships consist of merit-based awards that are provided to students with exceptional grades in their bachelors. The only exceptions are students enrolled in medical and MBA courses.

    The scholarship is valued at $14,000 and is open to students of all nationalities who are registered as full-time graduate and doctoral students at the University of Manitoba.

  5. Canada Graduate Scholarships-Master’s Program:
    The Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS – M) are post-graduate scholarships that provide financial support to scholars who are currently studying either health, natural sciences and/or engineering in a Canadian institution with CGS – M allocation. The CGS – M scholarships support upto 2,500 students in all disciplines each year and is valued at $17,500 for upto 12 months of duration.

  6. Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Scholarships:

    The University of Alberta awards scholarships to students enrolled in thesis based full-time graduate programs in research areas that are related to to Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Nanotechnology, or Omics (Omics consists of: Genomics, Proteomics, Metabolomics, Transcriptomics and Regulomics). The scholarship is valued at $26,500 for up to two years of studies and is open to applicants of any nationalities.

  7. Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships:

    The Vanier Scholarships program provides doctoral scholarships to attract world-class doctoral students who have displayed excellent leadership skills and scholarly achievements in graduate studies in in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and health-related fields. The scholarships are valued at $50,000 per year for up to three years and are unrestricted to students of all nationalities.

    Application deadline: November
