Dr. Karan Singh is an Indian Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), as well as being the President of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), and India's Ambassador to UNESCO. At the OG'13 Conference his speech was a wonderful highlight - he spoke on the Four Pillars of Education, a subject highly discussed by UNESCO. Saying "I sincerely hope that Indian gives you the inspiration to understand the various dimensions of education," he was given a standing ovation post talk.
Tharoor gave his keynote speech on the importance of educating girls not only in India, but also across the world. He said, "Scholarly studies and research projects have established what common sense may have already told us: that if you educate a boy, you educate a person - which is a good thing - but if you educate a girl, you educate a family and transform a community."
Rajawat is the only female Sarpanch, or elected village leader, of any village across India. Since 2010 she has been the Sarpanch of Village Soda, located a little outside Jaipur, in Rajasthan. In 2010 Rajawat was awarded the Young Indian Leader title by CNN-IBN, and in 2012 she co-chaired the India World Economic Forum, and was named a Young Global Leader. Key to her discussion was the need to form a synergy across the nation to organize the development sector to work effectively.
Formerly President of NYU Polytechnic in the U.S. (currently on sabbatical leave), Hultin has had an illustrious career. Among other roles past and present, he has also served as the Under-Secretary of the U.S. Navy - one of the nations top two civilian posts. Hultin spoke about the need for skills development to enable more young people to take their knowledge out into the real world in a useful way.
Heydlauff is the Chief Executive Officer of Going to School, a creative non-profit education trust based in New Delhi, as well as the Be! Fund, which enables youngsters living in poverty access to risk capital to start businesses that solve problems in areas in which they live. She is also an Ashoka Fellow, a TED India Fellow, and Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum, and talked about her initiatives and the importance of supporting youth, at the One Globe conference.
