Dr. Jack McGourty is the Vice Dean for Corporate, Government, and Global Engagement at The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, Columbia University and faculty member teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in engineering design and product realization, science, technology, and society studies, entrepreneurship, and technology management. Currently, Dr. McGourty is the driving force behind a new major global initiative, In-V-Ent-Ed, a training and development program for aspiring entrepreneurs around the world. Since joining Columbia University, Dr. McGourty has brought several million dollars in government, foundation, and corporate funding to support innovative engineering education and outreach programs. Dr. McGourty joined Columbia Engineering in 1998 as an associate dean charged with developing innovative undergraduate education programs. During this period, he was responsible for instituting service learning into the first year design program, thus establishing Columbia Engineering as a leader in educating socially responsible engineers. Dr. McGourty founded the Center for Technology, Innovation, and Community Engagement, an organization that provided a platform for students and faculty to work on real, global challenges. Prior to coming to Columbia in 1998, Dr. McGourty was a senior executive and board member of a large publicly traded company. During his tenure, Jack held several senior positions including vice president of human resources, executive vice president of operations, division president, and company president & chief operating officer. He was also the managing principal of Assessment Alternatives Inc., a consulting firm providing programs and services to medium and large technology companies on innovation and product realization best practices Dr. McGourty received his Ph.D. in Applied Psychology from Stevens Institute of Technology with a focus on the management of technology and innovation. Jack is an active member in the American Society for Engineering Education, served as senior associate editor for the Journal of Engineering Education for 10 years, and is now an associate editor for Advances in Engineering Education. He has published several articles and book chapters on education and technology management topics and is co-author of the Team Developer, a computerized multi-source assessment and leadership skill building system published by John Wiley & Sons. |
